Artist/ Maker: Jessika Hepburn
About This Item: Hello Worthsy friends! I decided to use my biggest mistake as an artist as our first auction since this sale was one of the big reasons for my taking a break from selling handmade &rethinking my focus.I got a convo for a custom handwork book on a short deadline for Christmas &agreed to make it. The buyer asked for something flowery &shabby chic/vintage inspired. I had so many ideas for the book that I WAY overdid it and put too much time + materials into the item.
What It Takes: Hand-dyed wool:$18 (factoring in my labor for the dyeing)Vintage lace, buttons &velvet:$10Time:9 hours start to finish @ $10 (only minimum wage) an hour= $90Actual cost of shipping:17.50Total in materials + time + shipping:$135.50But what I charged for the book was $52.00: $37.00 + $15 for shippingSo I lost:$83.50 on this one sale not including time away from projects that pay a lot more then minimum wage + not accounting for a profit margin. Yikes! So you tell me-how much is an entirely handmade (down to dyeing the wool),hand stitched, earth friendly, one of a kind, made with passion + love, heirloom quality handwork book worth?
Starting Price: $37
Final Sale Price: $46

We’ve been using a vintage typewriter (is there another kind) to write messages to one another for a while. It’s become a collection of days, memories, and sweet thoughts –I’ve been wanting something to keep the full pages and blank paper that will be beautiful alongside and full of all the personality inside.
I embroider and have been thinking about making something similar for a REALLY long time to cart my stuff around with me when I know I’ll be waiting or sitting still. But this would be about a million times better than trying to DIY –so gorgeous, and the attention to detail!
Oh,this would be perfect for car trips and vacations this summer
